I participated in classroom discussion that highlighted the historical context and terminology of DE, differences between asynchronous and synchronous DE technologies, social media for education, and open educational resources in Distance Education. It is important to emphasize that the progression of DE has been driven mainly by changes in technology and educational theory.
Distance education is used as a medium to facilitate a need-by-need basis for the convenience of educators as well as learners to explore and achieve a higher level of education. This is certainly an ideal scenario of my current Master of Distance Education and E-Learning Program at University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
